Mon., Oct. 16, 12 pm: Art on a Monday – Understanding the Importance of African-American Art & Culture. Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd. Denise Sherman, executive director of The Kansas African American Museum (TKAAM), and Anne Kraybill, director/CEO of the Wichita Art Museum, discuss the relevance of African-American art and culture, building connections within the community, and the future of TKAAM. COST $40

Oct. 16: Mayoral Forum, Rotary Club of Wichita will host an election event at Botanica, 701 Amidon St., at noon.

Oct. 18: The Wichita Beacon is co-sponsoring a mayoral and school board forum with the Wichita State University Office of Student Engagement, the League of Women Voters and Loud Light. It will be at the CAC Theater on campus at 1845 Fairmount St, Noon to 1 p.m. 

Wed., Oct 18-23 (7 pm Wed.; 12 pm & 7 pm Thu.; 12 pm & 7 pm Fri.): Sons of Thunder Revival, St. Andrews Missionary Baptist Church, 3901 E. 25th St. The kick-off luncheon will be at noon Oct. 18 at St. Andrews Baptist Church. Four churches participating are St. Andrews Missionary Baptist Church, Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Greater Mizpah Baptist Church, and New Hope Baptist Church. Guest evangelists will be participating from Seattle; Omaha; and Jonesboro, GA. FREE

Oct. 19: KWCH will host an election forum in the KWCH Studios at 2815 E. 37th St. North. Forum starts at 6:30 p.m.

Fri., Oct. 20, 6 – 8 pm: Candy Crawl at Clapp Park, 4611 E Harry St. Have a spooky good time at this community event. Dress up, grab your candy bag or bucket, and come visit local law enforcement, emergency personnel, park & rec staff, and local businesses and organizations for candy and prizes. Children and families will follow a one-way route through Clapp Park stopping at vendors booths to collect their treats while listening to DJ KJ Entertainment. FREE

Fri., Oct. 20, 6 – 8 pm: Howl-O-Ween Party at Linwood Rec Center, 1901 S Kansas. It’s all treats and no tricks this year. Enjoy carnival games, candy, a haunted room and more. Costumes are encouraged (no weapons please). For grades K-5th. FREE

Sat., Oct. 21, 1 – 4 pm: Trunk or Treat, WSU, John Bardo Center, 1845 Fairmount. FREE

Sat., Oct. 21, 9 am – 12 pm: First-Time Home Buyers Workshop, Urban League of Kansas, 2418 E. 9th. Learn about: The home buying process, mortgage loans, how to get qualified, home insurance, the closing cost process, and much more. Sun., Oct. 22, 4 – 6 pm: Candidates Election Forum, Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1817 N. Volutsia. Community organizations including the Wichita NAACP & Voter Empowerment will host an election forum that includes mayoral, school board and city council candidates.

Sun., Oct. 22, 1 – 3 pm: City Crew Owl-O-Ween, Central Riverside Park, 720 N Nims. The Kansas Wildlife Exhibit is an amazing opportunity to get up-close views of a bobcat, beaver, golden eagle, turkey vulture, hawks, quail, turtles and more. Scavenger hunt will take you to a variety of stations to learn about owls, snakes, turtles, bats, spiders, insects and more. Get a prize after the scavenger hunt and then wander to the inflatable bounce house to work off some energy. FREE
