KC’s Vaughn Selected for Ailey American Dance Theater  

Kansas City native De’Anthony Vaughan has been selected as a dancer with the Ailey American Dance Theater and will tour world wide with the elite modern dance company. A U.S. congressional resolution designated the company as “a vital American cultural ambassador to the world.” 

Vaughn began dancing at age 3. Growing up, he attended AileyCamp and classes at Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey and continued his dance career at The Ailey School in New York on scholarship. He received additional training from Kansas City Ballet and later danced professionally with the Von Howard Project. 

Prior to his recent move, Vaughan had been a member of the Dallas Black Dance Theatre since 2014. 

Jones Retires from KS Highway Patrol 

The Kansas Highway Patrol has announced that Col. Herman T. Jones, superintendent and head of the Kansas Highway Patrol, is retiring after serving the state and its citizens for the past 45 years, 25 of them with KHP.

Jones began his career with the KHP in 1982, with his initial assignment as a trooper in Wichita until 1992. He worked for KHP in a civilian capacity as director of administration until 2011. In 2019, Jones was appointed superintendent of the KHP by Gov. Laura Kelly. 

Jones is a native of Kansas City, KS, a graduate of Wyandotte High School and Emporia State University. Outside KHP, Jones worked as a campus police officer for Emporia State University, a patrolman with the Emporia Police Dept., a police instructor at Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, as Shawnee County Undersheriff and later Sheriff from 2012 through 2019.
