Kansas City roller skating enthusiasts have a new place to roll following the Sept. 30 grand opening of an outdoor skating rink at Blues Park, 2000 Prospect Ave.
The 16,000-square-foot concrete rink is part of a $1.7 million park improvement project that also includes a new parking lot, sidewalks and public restrooms.
The rink is open daily from dawn to dusk and accommodates both traditional roller skates and inline skates. Bicycles, skateboards and scooters are prohibited.
Skaters must bring their own skates, and the rink will not be staffed or supervised. Users are expected to follow posted safety rules, skate at appropriate speeds and respect others.
Helmets and protective gear are strongly encouraged, especially for children. Those 12 and younger must be supervised by a responsible adult.
Food, drinks, smoking and vaping are prohibited in the skating area. Rough play and obstacles are also prohibited.
The rink operates on a skate-at-your-own-risk basis, with Kansas City Parks and Recreation rangers providing oversight as needed.
