Beginning Feb. 5 through 23, live performances of The Wiz will be at Roxy’s Downtown – located at 412 1/2 E Douglas Ave.
The powerful cast includes some very familiar faces and the stage welcomes a few newcomers. Staring as Dorothy is Jaslyn Alexander, 25. A Wichita native, she has star written all over her, and that voice, perfecto. Robert Barnes, a Wichita theater regular who always delivers, is the Wiz.
Wichita is in for a treat watching these two and cast of other greats including: Tony-nominated Wichitan Karla Burns who stars as Evillene, the wicked witch and Injoy Fountain, who represented Wichita well on last fall’s season of The Voice, brings her huge talent to us in this production. Cast member Thomas Hanks, a local film star, has been in the Bray Films duo “Pearl” and “Pearl 2.” but now we get to see him live in this classic tale.
Newcomers include: Lucas Lowry, a Wichita State University student who plays the scarecrow and Alexander Ogburn, who takes on the role of the cowardly Lion.
Rounding out the characters who travel down the road with Dorothy is Huron Breaux, who takes on the role of the Tin Man. Breaux also lends his talents as musical director for the show and Burns serves as vocal director.
