The Westar Energy community scholarships and grants, established in the wake of the recent Northeast Wichita power pole fiasco, are now accepting applications.
The programs are being administered through the Wichita Community Foundation and bear the name of Westar’s parent company, Evergy.
Ten $1,000 student scholarships from the Evergy Scholarship Fund are available to high school seniors from ZIP codes 67208, 67214 or 67219, where large power poles were installed without community input.

Grants for non-profit groups from the Evergy Community Investment Fund are available to groups in the ZIP codes 67208, 67214 or 67219, in Sedgwick County or have an active chapter in Sedgwick County, for projects focusing on either community and environment enhancement or youth enrichment and development.
