Brigadier General Benjamin O. Davis Sr. (1877–1970) was a pioneering U.S. Army officer, famous for becoming the first Black general officer in American history in 1940. Over a 50-year career, he broke racial barriers in a segregated military, commanding Buffalo Soldiers, advising on race relations in World War II, and earning high honors like the Distinguished Service Medal.
