1. Troy Andrews: A Vision, a Camera, and a Calling

Wichita-based filmmaker Troy Andrews is building a global fanbase and a growing film catalog — all from right here in Kansas. As the founder of DrewVision Cinema, Andrews has proven that you don’t need Hollywood to make movies that resonate around the world.

2. Trump’s Big Proposed Cuts to Health and Education Spending Rebuffed By US Senate Panel

The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations Thursday, largely rejected Trump administration proposals to slash funding for education programs, medical research grants, health initiatives, and Ukraine security assistance.

3. Parks-Shaw’s Operation Backpack Reaches 6th Year 

Well before the giveaways 11 a.m. start time on Sat., Aug. 6, the line-of cars waiting to participate in the program had already wound to the end of Swope Park and blocks into the neighboring community. 

4. Cheaper Cannabis: Missouri Supreme Court Rules Counties, Cities Can’t Stack’ Taxes on Marijuana Sales

Kansas Citians shopping at their local marijuana dispensary will now pay 3% less in sales taxes after a recent Missouri Supreme Court ruling.

5. McAdams National Junior Tennis Program Wraps Successful Summer Program

There were dozens of potential stars participating in this year’s free summer McAdams National Junior Tennis program sponsored by the McAdams Tennis Foundation and Club.  Even though the camp name includes “junior,” the players were of all ages from three to 70, and possibly older.

Instagram launches map feature that allows users to show their current location. It includes an actual map of the U.S. showing where users are active. It also updates your location every time you use the app. (KWCH)
