An incident involving youth at a Wichita YMCA sparked outrage around the city, however a mother of one of the young men sought out answers behind the scenes.

2. Genre Changing Headhunters to Appear Live in KC Sept. 1

Members of The Headhunters. All relatively older gentlemen in sporty casual outfits Three are Black, one is White and one is Brown.

The sound of Headhunters, with their fusions of jazz with funk rhythms, R&B groves, and electric instrumentation will bring their great sound and historic play list to Kansas City over Labor Day weekend for a fundraiser benefiting the American Music Apprenticeship Program.

3. Elisabeth’s Lounge Brings Culture, Cuisine, and Community to East Wichita

Kouassi Bernard Kesse, owner of Elisabeth’s Lounge, is bringing R&B, African food, and culture to East Wichita.

4. Small Homes, Big Hopes

Barbara Sabol and her daughters have built a community of tiny homes just northeast of Lawrence, KS to provide affordable rental housing for young adults aging out of the state’s foster care system.

5. Inaugural Yuma Street Festival: Tribute to Past, Fundraiser for the Future

A vibrant celebration of memory and community is arriving Labor Day weekend with the first-ever Yuma Street Cultural Festival, a day of live music, food, history, and community that will honor Manhattan’s African American heritage and raise vital funds for its future.
