Even with September temperatures, the annual Kappa Kookout drew a large crowd of fraternity brothers, family, and friends on Saturday at Longview Lake. The shaded shelter, combined with the cool breeze off Longview Lake, made the warm temperature enjoyable as attendees settled in for a day of community, connection, and plenty of food.

The Kookout, promoted under the theme “Grilling, Chilling and Nupey Mayhem,” lived up to its billing. From the moment guests arrived, one thing was clear: there were Kappas everywhere. Members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. turned out in full force, showcasing the deep ties of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter, one of the nation’s oldest, founded in 1923.

Shoutouts to the cooks, who kept the grills loaded all afternoon with chicken wings, hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausages. Plates were stacked high, and the supply seemed endless. Attendees noted not just the abundant food, but also the camaraderie and the relaxed atmosphere that allowed brothers and guests to laugh, reminisce, and make new connections. A few libations added to the festive spirit.

While the Kookout is about good times, the purpose runs deeper. Events like this strengthen the bonds among fraternity members while creating opportunities for outreach. By opening the gathering to friends, families, and civic partners, the Kappas highlight their mission of service and brotherhood, showing the public that their impact extends beyond professional networks and into the heart of Kansas City.

From the sizzling grills to the laughter echoing under the shelter, the 2025 Kappa Kookout was another reminder of the fraternity’s enduring presence. For longtime members and newcomers alike, the day captured some of the things Kappas are known for: fellowship and commitment to community.
