In what had to be the longest community-based parade in history — at least the 30 year history The Voice has been covering them — the 2025 Juneteenth Parade was a symbol of community-wide support. From churches, to politicians, to community organizations, the community showed wide-spread support for the parade that seems to have moved permanently from the backroads — down 17th Street — to mainstream — down 13th Street.

The challenge with photographing the parade is that it goes down-hill from west to east, which places the sun behind the parade participants and makes taking pictures of our strongly melaninated skin a challenge. So apologies for some of thee pictures of our beautiful kings, queens, princes and princesses, who were out celebrating our Freedom Day.
