Spring cleaning season has arrived in Kansas City, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to clear out those bulky unwanted items that have been collecting dust in your garage, basement, or spare room.

Most items can be disposed for free.

You can get rid of most items for free at Wyandotte County’s ever-popular Dumpster Days. The event returns April 4-5, with operating hours from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 47th & Orville in Kansas City, KS, near the former Indian Springs Mall.

Got Junk? Bring It!

The free drop-off service welcomes a wide variety of unwanted household items including:

  • That old mattress taking up space in your garage
  • Furniture you’ve been meaning to replace
  • Appliances (as long as they don’t contain Freon)
  • Fixtures you’ve upgraded
  • Televisions and monitors (fees apply)

Electronics recycling will be available Friday only with the following fees (cash only, exact change required):

CRT (Tube) Computer Screens: $40

LCD/Flat Screen TVs: $20

CRT (Tube) TVs: $40

What to Bring

Don’t forget to bring proof of Wyandotte County residency – a driver’s license, utility bill, or other document with your name and address will do.

What to Leave Behind

Save yourself a trip back home by knowing what items aren’t accepted:

  • Household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, etc.)
  • Food and yard waste
  • Tires and batteries
  • Storm debris
  • Refrigerators or anything containing Freon
  • Glass, plastics, and regular recycling
  • Construction materials

These items will be turned away at the event, so plan accordingly!

Other Options for Disposal

Can’t make it to Dumpster Days or have items that aren’t accepted? You’ve got alternatives:

  • For household hazardous waste, head to the HHW Center at 2443 S. 88th Street, KCK.
  • The Recycling & Yard Waste Center at 3241 Park Drive accepts yard waste, storm debris, and recyclables free of charge Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Dec. 20.

Community Benefits

Dumpster Days has become a key community event, helping residents properly dispose of items that don’t fit in regular trash collection while keeping neighborhoods clean and tidy.

Previous events have drawn many residents looking to declutter their homes while responsibly disposing of unwanted items – all without breaking the bank.
So gather up those bulky items you’ve been meaning to get rid of, load up the car or truck, and take advantage of this free community service! For more information, visit wycokck.org/DumpsterDays.
