In honor of Black History Month, Butler Community College Black Student Association (BSA) will host “A Celebration of the Arts” on Tues., Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Clifford/Stone Room at the El Dorado Campus Welcome Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
This event features Aaron Profit and Injoy Fountain, two performers who have both found success on national stages and in the local art community. Each guest will give a short presentation about their artistic careers, along with a dedicated Q&A session.
Aaron Profit is a Butler alum and professional theatre artist with a long list of performance credits and is recognized as a skilled actor and producer. During the event, Profit will perform a single monologue portraying Frederick Douglass from the show “The Agitators.”
Injoy Fountain is an accomplished singer and stage performer with a colorful background in the entertainment industry. Fountain will talk about her experience on the popular television talent show “The Voice” and acting in local and national touring companies.
The program is sponsored by the Harold Smith Cultural Series, established to bring celebrated speakers to Butler Community College. Smith, who attended El Dorado High School and El Dorado Junior College before attending college at Northwestern University in 1930. After While in Chicago, he discovered access to certain events that had not been available in El Dorado.
Smith, who never married, left nearly his entire estate to charitable organizations and Northwestern University. Part of his bequeath was to “to give local people the opportunity to hear speakers they would not otherwise hear.”
This unique gift has been responsible for bringing impressive speakers to Butler’s campus such as: Jazz flutists, Galen Abdur-Razzaq in 2020. He spoke on “Jazz and the Civil Rights Movement,” Entrepreneurs and founder of CakeLove Warren Brown in 2012 and former First Lady Barbara Bush in 2001. This event is co-sponsored by the Harold Smith Cultural Series .
