In partnership with the Sedgwick County Extension Office, the Sedgwick County Health Department, and the American Heart Association, customers who visit the Wichita Public Library can now monitor their blood pressure at home using new blood pressure monitors, the latest addition to the Library of Things.

Each kit comes with a blood pressure monitor, log book, pre-survey and instruction booklet. Customers will be able to borrow the monitors for 14 days, as is standard with most materials in the Library of Things collection.

“Providing access to blood pressure monitor kits at the public library can save lives by empowering residents to take control of their own health and regularly monitor their blood pressure,” said Jaime Nix, Director of Libraries.

In addition to the new kits, customers are encouraged to browse the collection for books related to heart health. Some titles of interest include:

Caring For Loved Ones with Heart Disease by J Shah, MD

Healthy Heart, Healthy Brain: The Proven Personalized Path to Protect Your Memory, Prevent Heart Attacks and Strokes, and Avoid Chronic Illness by Bradley Bale, MD and Amy Doneen, DNP with Lisa Collier Cool

Mayo Clinic on High Blood Pressure: Your Personal Guide to Managing Hypertension by Gary L. Schwartz, MD

The 30-Day Heart Tune-Up: A Breakthrough Medical Plan to Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Steven Masley, MD

Funding for these monitors was provided by the Wichita Medical Research and Education Foundation. Customers can visit www.wichitalibrary.org/things to place holds.
