Tamya Gipson, 18, is making her first try at winning the Miss Juneteenth ICT crown.
The Wichita Northeast Magnet HIgh School student is the daughter of Fiorella Dozier. She says she decided to enter the contest because it provides an opportunity to meet new people.
“It’s an excellent way to network and meet people who have different strengths and try to inspire other Black girls in my community,” she says. “I want to bring more Black females together of all ages because there is just too much hatred and envy among one another in the community.”
Tamya says she plans to attend Clark Atlanta University, an HBCU, and study criminal justice, sociology and psychology, then bring her skills home to serve her community.
The 2024 Miss Juneteenth ICT pageant will be June 13 in the Wichita State University CAC Theater.
