There’s good news for Kansas drivers.  The Kansas legislature has passed broad, driver-friendly amendments to the state’s statute on driver’s license suspension and revocation laws.  To help the more than 200,000 Kansas drivers who have had their license suspended or revoked, The Community Voice will hold a free webinar on Sat., May 11 at 10 a.m. with a panel of experts who were involved in the development and passage of the new policies.

Join us online this Sat., May 11 for this free webinar to learn more about how SB500 can impact the more than 200,000 individuals in Kansas with suspended licenses.

KS Senator Oletha Faust Goudeau, who has been working on improving access for individuals with revoked driver’s licenses to be able to apply for and receive restricted licenses allowing them to drive to complete essential life tasks, was able to get that and more with this latest set of revisions.

Senate Bill 500 approved by the Kansas Legislature and waiting for KS. Gov. Laura Kelly’s signature, makes major changes for individuals with current and suspended and revoked licenses and makes more forgiving changes in the state’s policies for individuals who might fail to pay their tickets in the future.

Faust-Goudeau says one of the reasons for the broad changes in the policy is that law  enforcement officials from across the state finally came to the table to help craft a bill.  Ed Klumpp, lobbyist for law enforcement matters representing the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police, the Kansas Sheriff’s Association, and the Kansas Peace Officers Association, was intricately involved in drafting the policy changes, and will be an expert participant on The Voice’s webinar.

Joining Klumpp and Faust-Goudeau on the panel will be Sheila Officer, chair of the Wichita Racial ProfilingAdvisory Board.  That organization has been one of the major advocates for amending the state’s suspension and ticketing policies for more than a decade.

In addition to explaining the very complex changes in the law, the panel will explain next steps for individuals to take and answer questions from participants.
