O.J. Simpson, the former football star who was infamously acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, passed away last week at the age of 76 from complications related to prostate cancer. Simpson reportedly died in Las Vegas surrounded by family members.

In the weeks leading up to his death, videos circulated of Simpson downplaying the severity of his illness. Roughly nine weeks before he succumbed, Simpson stated in a video, “My health is good. Obviously, I’m dealing with some issues, but hey, I think I’m just about over it, and I’ll be back on that golf course, hopefully in a couple of weeks.”

As recently as February 9th, Simpson was seen driving and denying rumors that he was in hospice care, stating, “Hospice, hospice, you talking about hospice, no I’m not in any hospice.”

However, Simpson’s longtime attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, shed light on his client’s rapidly declining health in the final days before his April 10th passing. LaVergne revealed that just weeks before Easter, he visited Simpson at his Las Vegas home where he seemed “awake, alert and chilling” while watching TV and drinking a beer.

But just a week later, LaVergne said Simpson’s doctor informed him that the former athlete was “transitioning.” On his next visit, Simpson’s condition had markedly deteriorated, with LaVergne stating he could only ask for water and choose between watching tennis or golf on TV, naturally picking golf as “he was an absolute fanatic.”

Five days after that sobering encounter, Simpson passed away on April 10th. While his family said he was “surrounded by his children and grandchildren” in their statement, LaVergne claimed Simpson died next to an unidentified close family member.

The details provide a fuller picture of Simpson’s final days, contrasting the relatively active lifestyle he projected in those viral videos just weeks before his tragic death from cancer.
