The Wichita City Council approved $150,000 for the continuation of the Water Conservation Rebate Program. The program encourages residents to purchase water-saving household devices by offering rebates in the form of a credit to their water account.

The $150,000 rebate program funding allocation includes:

• $75,000 – allocation for City of Wichita customers who have active residential water accounts.  • $50,000 – allocation for the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department MABCD “Code Enforcement Liaison Program” to assist low-income homeowners with repairs related to water leaks and plumbing issues.

• $25,000 – allocation for City wholesale water customers to administer their own conservation program.

Application Process

The application, list of qualifying items, program requirements and submittal instructions are available at savewichitawater.com. Online and paper applications will be accepted through Dec. 31, 2024, or until funds are exhausted. Rebates apply to any device purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2024.

Due to the impact of the drought on the water supply, the rebate program has been revised to incentivize devices that will have the most immediate impact on water usage, specifically those devices that reduce outdoor watering and water loss due to leaks.

General guidelines and eligible items are listed below.

The City strongly recommends bringing a printout of the qualifying appliances for reference when shopping. There is a limit of five rebated items per water account. Rebates will not exceed the purchase price.

Rebates are available for up to:

• Dual Flush Converter Kits (up to $50)  By providing two options for flushing, one for liquid waste and another for solid waste, these kits allow households to optimize their water usage based on the specific needs of each flush.

• Hose Faucet Irrigation Controllers (up to $100) There’s a variety of these devices, typically  Wi-Fi-enabled and connect to your standard garden hose.  They can allow individuals to create watering schedules, detect leaks in your hose, and adjust easily based on weather alerts.  Most of them allow remote adjustments.

• Rain Barrels (up to $75) Rain barrels capture water from a roof and hold it for later use such as on lawns, gardens or indoor plants.

• Rain Sensor Shutoffs (up to $100) These devices prevent lawn irrigation after recent rain events.

• Smart Irrigation Controllers (up to $100) They optimize water usage through real-time weather data, soil moisture sensors, and personalized watering schedules.

• Toilet Repair Kits (up to $35)  Even the most basic kits can help eliminate ghost flushing and water leaks.
