In an effort to engage the community in the budgeting process and gather input on city and county priorities for the upcoming fiscal year, the Wyandotte County Unified Government (UG) is hosting a series of community conversations titled DotteTalk. These sessions aim to foster dialogue between local residents and government officials regarding the allocation of resources and financial decisions that impact the community.
The DotteTalk series will kick off on Sat, April 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Rosedale Development Association. This event marks the beginning of an important opportunity for residents to voice their opinions and contribute to shaping the 2025 city and county budgets.
Subsequent sessions will be held at various locations throughout Kansas City, KS and Wyandotte County to ensure accessibility to residents across different neighborhoods:
- Rosedale: Saturday, April 6, 3 – 5 p.m. at the Rosedale Development Association
- Downtown: Wednesday, April 10, 6 – 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church
- Turner: Monday, April 15, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Bristol Hill Methodist Church
- West: Tuesday, April 16, 6 – 8 p.m. at the UG Annex Building
- Bonner Springs: Tuesday, April 23, 6 – 8 p.m. at the Bonner Springs Library
Community members will have the opportunity to participate in discussions about various options for balancing the city and county budgets, as required by state law. Residents are encouraged to bring their neighbors and join in this crucial conversation about the future of their community.
In addition to the community conversations, the UG has launched a new tool to further engage residents in the budgeting process. The UG budget simulator, introduced last week, allows residents and interested community members to create their own city and county budget proposals. This interactive tool empowers individuals to decide on budget priorities, including property taxes and the BPU PILOT. All feedback generated through the budget simulator will be shared with the UG Commission to inform the 2025 budget process.
