In honor of Black History Month, the ARISE Ensemble and the Holy Savior Catholic Academy Choir will host the 2nd Annual “Journey to Freedom” benefit concert on Sun., Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. in the Holy Savior Academy Gymnasium, 3000 E. 13th St. N.
The concert will feature three songs each by ARISE (African Americans Renewing Interest in Spirituals Ensemble) and the Holy Savior Catholic Academy choir, which includes students in grades 4th through 8th. The two choirs will also sing songs together.
The concert is part of the ARISE Choir’s initiative, TEACH (Transformation, Empowerment, Advocacy, Cultural Appreciation and Hope). The concert is a benefit for both ARISE and HSCA.
Established in 1988, ARISE is an internationally-known ensemble made up of more than 35 members. Its mission includes honoring the African-American forefathers and mothers who created spirituals and to shine a light on how spirituals can continue to unify people and uplift.
Holy Savior Catholic Academy is a school within the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. The school has an enrollment of more than 275 students of various faith backgrounds. The choir that will sing in the concert is made up of 30 students.
