When Jackie McGilbray opened her fashion boutique, Jewel Angels, on Wichitaโ€™s East Douglas Ave. in December 2020, she knew there was a good market for her line of fashionable and trendy clothing at a reasonable price.

After all, she had successfully operated the model since 2010, at a storefront in St. Louis and online from Houston.

She knew her location in the Douglas Design District was ideal for her kind of shop.

What wasnโ€™t ideal was the timing. It was the middle of a global pandemic.

โ€œIt was a real struggle. There was just nobody out and about. People just werenโ€™t going out, so nobody was looking for a new outfit for a night out on the town,โ€ she says.

She turned back to online selling.

โ€œI decided to launch fashion shows on a weekly basis on Facebook. And Fashion Friday Live really took off,โ€ she says. โ€œKnowing that a lot of people were working from home, I started offering more comfortable, less dressy outfits.โ€

โ€œPretty soon, I was shipping all over the country,โ€ she said.

One of the secrets to the success of Jewel Angels is the variety of clothing offered. She stocks truly affordable outfits priced from as low as $10 to a high of $130 in size from XS to 3X.
