When Jackie McGilbray opened her fashion boutique, Jewel Angels, on Wichita’s East Douglas Ave. in December 2020, she knew there was a good market for her line of fashionable and trendy clothing at a reasonable price.
After all, she had successfully operated the model since 2010, at a storefront in St. Louis and online from Houston.
She knew her location in the Douglas Design District was ideal for her kind of shop.
What wasn’t ideal was the timing. It was the middle of a global pandemic.
“It was a real struggle. There was just nobody out and about. People just weren’t going out, so nobody was looking for a new outfit for a night out on the town,” she says.
She turned back to online selling.
“I decided to launch fashion shows on a weekly basis on Facebook. And Fashion Friday Live really took off,” she says. “Knowing that a lot of people were working from home, I started offering more comfortable, less dressy outfits.”
“Pretty soon, I was shipping all over the country,” she said.
One of the secrets to the success of Jewel Angels is the variety of clothing offered. She stocks truly affordable outfits priced from as low as $10 to a high of $130 in size from XS to 3X.
