If your plans include a visit to Wichita Municipal Court after Monday, July 31, plan on losing access to your electronic devices for the duration of your time in the courtroom.
The city says the use of Yondr Bags in all municipal courtrooms is intended to enhance the safety of court attendees and will ensure a distraction-free environment in Municipal Court.
When entering the courtroom, all attendees will place their electronic devices in soft, lockable pouches. They will be allowed to maintain possession of devices, but won’t be able to use them., At the end of their time at Municipal Court, clerks will unlock the bag.
The Yondr Bags will prevent electronic devices from capturing the personal information and conversations inside the courtroom, ensuring that legal matters and protection of witnesses and defendants remain confidential.
Yondr Bags will also eliminate the temptation to check or use mobile devices during court sessions, allowing participants to concentrate solely on the proceedings.
Yondr Bags will encourage individuals to remain attentive and respectful, reducing disruptions caused by ringing phones, text message alerts, or the unauthorized capturing of sensitive courtroom moments.
The City is leasing Yondr bags from the company for $3,000 a year. For more information on Yondr bags, visit overyondr.com/howitworks.
