Wichita children will have a chance to meet Devin Walker, known as “Uncle Devin, the Children’s Drum cussionist” and to experience his interactive musical experience when he performs in Wichita on Tuesday. (June 27).

Uncle Devin’s shows are hosted by the Wichita Public Library.

He will be performing at the Alford Branch, 3447 S. Meridian, at 10:30 a.m. and at the Maya Angelou Branch. 3051 E. 21st Street North at 2:30 p.m.

Uncle Devin is a national leader in the children’s music industry and an award-winning drummer and percussionist specializing in Family Funk. He is the owner of The Uncle Devin Show, an interactive musical experience for children. His sound has been described as a dynamic cross between DC’s Trouble Funk and Schoolhouse Rock.

As an activist, diversity trainer and teaching artist, he developed a presentation, Racism in Children’s Music: Liberating Music for the Black Child, exploring solutions to eradicate racist lyrics, cartoons, books and more that are still harmful to this day.

Uncle Devin and 25 other artists are members of the 1 Tribe Collective whose album “All One Tribe” was GRAMMY-nominated for Best Children’s Music Album in 2022.

As a teaching artist, Uncle Devin’s performances, workshops, and school residencies have allowed children to hear, see, and play different percussion instruments.

Both Wichita performances are open free of charge.
