Herman Hicks, Senior Pastor of the Greater Pentecostal Church of God In Christ and 1st Administrative Assistant to the Bishop of Kansas Southwest Jurisdiction is now Auxiliary Bishop Designate Herman Hicks.

Pastor Hicks was recommended by Bishop Mark L. Gilkey, Kansas SW Jurisdiction, selected by Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, and approved by the General Assembly.

Bishop Designate Hicks will be consecrated as Bishop on Nov. 11 in Memphis, Tenn. 

While jurisdictional bishops like Bishop Gilkey are “entrusted” with a jurisdiction, auxiliary bishops are “members of the Board of Bishops who are generally entrusted with a position of authority and oversight for a specific purpose.”   Bishop Hicks will serve as Auxiliary Bishop under Bishop Gilkey’s leadership.

Hicks came to Wichita by way of McConnell Air Force Base, where he served as Commander of the Support Group in the 22nd Air Refueling Wing.

“Bishop [J.C.] Gilkey asked me to leave the Air Force to become Pastor of Greater Pentecostal 20 years ago,” Hicks said. 

Hicks has a total of 40 years in the ministry and is a past president of the Greater Wichita Ministerial League. He was named 1st Administrative Assistant to Bishop Gilkey this year.

There are 32 churches in the Kansas Southwest Jurisdiction, located in Wichita, Salina, Junction City, Liberal, Dodge City and Garden City.

Bishop Designate Hicks and his wife, Anadina, have been married for 36 years and have four children and one grandchild.
