BChic Bar & Grill Afro Cuisine has relocated to Northwest Centre, located at 8428 W 13th St N, Suite 100 Wichita, KS 67212, and is opening on Friday, March 31.

Beatrice Forchu, BChic owner and head chef, is a native of Cameroon and has lived in the United States for the past 21 years, and in Wichita for the last 14 years.

“There is a peace and a family-oriented nature about Wichita that you just can’t find anywhere else,” said Forchu. “I am proud to not only live here but to introduce African cuisine to the community.”

The restaurant already has a loyal following and customer base but Forchu was ready for a new location with better visibility. She chose Northwest Centre for its high traffic count at the intersection of 13th and Tyler Rd.

Northwest Centre is operated and managed by Occidental Management and Nick Flores, leasing agent, assisted Forchu in finding her new location and handled the lease for her.

“Beatrice not only has a love for cooking, but she has a love for bringing people together,” said Flores. “Her restaurant offers something that can’t be found anywhere else in the area. There are regular customers that will drive more than 30 miles for B and her food.”

The menu includes authentic Afro cuisine, as well as dishes with a Caribbean flare including jerk chicken, coconut curry stew, steamed jasmine rice, and plantains. Two of the most popular menu items include fufus (a side dish made with pounded yam) and egusi soup.

BChic offers both lunch and dinner, as well as a full bar. Dining options include dine-in, carry-out, special orders, and catering services.

Hours of operation:

  • Mon-Thurs: 11am-9pm
  • Fri-Sat: 12pm-10pm
  • Sun: 12pm-8pm

Forchu added, “Cameroon is called ‘Africa is miniature’ because the different parts of Africa are all represented in that one country. And when it comes to food, we have over 600 dishes with very unique flavors. So here at BChic, the goal is to expose as many of those dishes as possible to the public.”

Forchu added that there is a large African population in Wichita and she enjoys hearing her African customers’ different accents, stories, and the many ways in which they cook.

“I am a very curious person, and I want to please the client as well as to learn,” Forchu added. “Our culture is about celebrating, there is never a dull moment. And our cuisine is to be enjoyed by everybody. So, I encourage others to come and try us out. Let your taste buds try something new, you’ll be amazed.”
