The day after the ribbon cutting for WeDevelopment Credit Union, friends of WeDevelopment Board of Directors President Ujama Webster and his wife Kendi gathered to wish the well-liked and appreciated couple farewell.

After living in Kansas City for more than 40  years, the couple have sold their DuBois Engineering firm and are relocating to Ghana, as part of a group on the 50-acre Wasenor Development in the Krobo State in the eastern part of the country. The initial phase of the development will include a housing community.

The Websters, originally from Los Angeles, moved to Kansas City in 1980.

“I always felt that we were with our people,” said Ajamu about the family’s life in KC. “It was hard to come here and not have any family.  Being embraced like we were is very very important.”

In addition to WeDevelopment Credit Union, the couple were actively involved with a number of community organizations including the Black United Front and the W.E.B. Dubois Learning Center.
