The Unified Government Public Works Department will host a second Dumpster Day on Oct. 21 and 22 at Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Ave in Bonner Springs, KS, from 8 a.m.to Noon. The Dumpster Day event helps Wyandotte residents recycle electronics waste for a fee and dispose of unwanted bulky items like old mattresses and furniture for free.

Individuals must show proof of residency in Wyandotte County that displays their name and address, like a driver license or water bill. Although Public Works team members will be present to assist in some cases, especially with bulky items,  individuals are responsible for unloading and disposing of their items in available dumpsters. Bring gloves and eyewear protection to avoid injury when unloading.

Items accepted include:

  • electronics recycling
  • mattresses
  • furniture
  • refrigerators
  • general appliances
  • fixtures
  • microwaves, freezers, televisions, and more. 

For televisions, computer screens, flat screens, and monitors, the following fees are charged:

  • CRT Computer Screens, and CRT TV’s $40
  • LCD/Flat Screen TVs, $20

The accepted payment is cash only,  in exact change.

Items that cannot be accepted include:

  • All household hazardous waste
  • Paint
  • Yard waste
  • Batteries
  • Storm debris
  • Food waste
  • Medical waste
  • Glass & plastics recycling
  • Tires
  • Construction or demolition material
  • Any item from businesses, non-profits, or other commercial entities

Unaccepted items brought to the event will be declined.

For yard waste, storm debris, and glass or paper recycling, residents may use the Recycling & Yard Waste Center at 3241 Park Drive, Kansas City, KS, at no charge. The Recycling & Yard Waste Center is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday to Nov. 20 and every Saturday from Dec. 3 to Mar. 26. The center is closed on holidays.
