Kansas Citians are invited to attend the  first gala and third fundraising event for G.Y.R.L. (Give Yourself Real Love) on Sat. Oct. 15 at the Delta Athenaeum, 900 E Linwood Blvd, KCMO, 7 to 10 p.m.

The gala theme is “Gyrl What About Me,” and will include live entertainment, food, and speakers sharing their personal experience.

G.Y.R.L. is a nonprofit dedicated to bringing awareness to and mentoring survivors of domestic violence..

Individuals can expect a mixture of emotions at the gala. 

“We’re gonna take you through a roller coaster of emotions, we’re gonna have fun and entertain but also be serious about what we’re doing,” said Gloria Ellington, founder and owner of G.Y.R.L.

The fundraising goal is $20,000, which will go towards G.Y.R.L’s programming, which includes mentorship, leadership, anger management, family counseling and individual counseling. 

G.Y.R.L. also has a” communiversity,” which teaches youth from the community a wide range of classes from economics, arts and crafts, to digital graphic services.

Ellington emphasizes that G.Y.R.L. is also about empowerment. 

A total of 10 awards will be presented to individuals who have actively engaged with the nonprofit organization. 

The gala event space was gifted to the organization by Music and More Foundation.
