A new scholarship program for alums of Holy Savior Catholic Academy will be announced and new gym and athletic equipment for students will be presented during the first school-wide assembly to be held in the school’s new gymnasium on Sept. 22.
Chequan Lewis, chief operating officer for Pizza Hut U.S. will be the featured speaker at the assembly. Lewis works with restaurant teams across the country and leads the company’s operation on food services to customers.
Dr. Delia Shropshire, president of Holy Savior Catholic Academy said Lewis’ story is intended to show students that there are many pathways to success and that education is the key to finding one.
“Sometimes students see the path to success through the channels of entertainment and sports,” Shropshire said. “This visit by Mr. Chequan Lewis, a Howard University and Harvard Law School graduate, demonstrates that equation is key.”
The scholarship program is something that parish families and supporters of the academy have put together. The equipment donation is made possible by a live auction at an annual benefit banquet. This year Play It Again Sports donated the equipment for the gym and proposed using it as a live auction item. The winning bidders will present the equipment at Thursday’s assembly.
Holy Savior Catholic Church, part of the Catholic Diocese of Wichita, is home to approximately 400 families. Holy Savior Academy has an enrollment of more than 290 students in grades pre-K through 8.The gymnasium was built as part of Holy Savior’s Built of Living Stones capital campaign.
