Community Services League (CSL), the resource organization partnered with the Jackson County Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), opened a new office in Independence, MO for renters who are Jackson County residents, but may live outside of Kansas City limits.

The new office, located at 103 N. Main St. now has 10 case managers who help residents apply for the program for rental and utility assistance.

CSL has about $25 million to award this year. Last year, the organization awarded more than $10 million and stopped 1,000 evictions. The funding goes directly to landlords to pay up to 15 months of rent.

To apply, your household must have an income at or below 80% of the area median. You also must have qualified for unemployment or experienced a reduction in household income or demonstrates a risk of becoming homelessness or housing instability.

Residents can visit the office with or without an appointment. Visit the ERAP website to find out if you’re eligible for assistance: https://www.jacksoncountyerap.org/.
