The 16-year-old accused of shooting and killing Tren’Javious Hutton in the Friday night shooting at Town East mall made his initial appearance today in Juvenile Court. He is being charged with one count of murder in the first degree and one count of criminal use of weapons, class.
The state made it clear they plan to pursue prosecution of the defendant as an adult.
The defense requested the defendant be placed on house arrest, citing his lack of prior charges, good grades, his school attendance record – he’s a high school junior – and his relationship with this mother. The judge agreed with the prosecution and had the defendant held in juvenile detention, citing him as a danger to society.
His next appearance is set for April 18, where he will be expected to enter a plea.
The defendant shot 14-year-old Trenjavious Hutton, following a fight at Town East Mall, around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hutton died from his wounds.
