Black history MasterClass

Streaming platform MasterClass is providing free classes in honor of Black History Month.

The class, called “Black History, Black Freedom, and Black Love,” will be taught by seven Black intellectuals: Jelani Cobb, Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, Angela Davis, Sherrilyn Ifill, Nikole Hannah-Jones, John McWhorter and Cornel West.

The free class is possible due to the $2 million commitment MasterClass is making to create content that inspires and educates people about social justice and fighting against systemic racism.

The course, broken into three parts, covers 400 years of racial history in a total of 10 hours.

Part one (The Past) delves into the relationship between slavery and American capitalism, white supremacy and the 14th Amendment, and the history of voter suppression and education equality.

Part two (The Present) examines the origin of critical race theory, the historic “Brown vs. Board of Education” Supreme Court case, and the legacy of Thurgood Marshall.

Part three (The Future) addresses how members can apply what they’ve learned to create a just society.

You can begin watching “Black History, Black Freedom, and Black Love” right now. The class will also eventually be available to stream for free on IMDb TV and available for all Prime Members through a distribution partnership with Amazon.
