Nov. 9 – 30 at the National WWI Museum and Memorial Courtyard. A commemorative photo mosaic art installation honoring the service and sacrifice of U.S. active-duty military service members and veterans. Created by The People’s Picture, the giant mosaic measures 1,350 square feet and will be located on the Memorial Courtyard. Guests are invited and encouraged to walk on the mosaic artwork to better see the individual photos that make up the mosaic. FREE to the public.
Veterans Day Salute
Nov. 11 at the Bruce Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway KCMO at 6 p.m. Meet at the Overlook. Kansas City/ Leavenworth Buffalo Soldiers 9th and 10th Horse Calvary and KC Parks present a Salute to the Veterans. All branches of service, all veterans and their family welcome. There will be a Buffalo Soldiers exhibit, flag ceremony and taps.
100 Year Site Dedication Ceremony & Veterans Day Ceremony
Nov. 11 at the National WWI Museum North Lawn, Memorial Courtyard (by the General’s Wall near Pershing Ave.), 8 to 11 a.m. Symbolic recreation of the site dedication ceremony 100 years ago, with five representatives standing in for the five Allied commanders and their respective countries. The formal public program will include remarks from dignitaries and a keynote address from David Clark.
Cars 4 Heroes Ceremony
Nov. 11 at the National WWI Museum North Lawn at noon. For 25 years, Cars 4 Heroes has provided free, basic, reliable transportation to veterans, first responders and their families, who otherwise are not able to obtain transportation for themselves. The organization will give 13 cars to deserving individuals, in honor of the 13 service members who lost their lives in Afghanistan.
Vietnam-Era Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” Helicopter Display
Nov. 12 – 14 at the Rectangular Drive outside the National WWI Museum, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #243 will provide an iconic Bell UH-1 Iroquois “Huey” helicopter for people to climb aboard and inspect. FREE to the public.
Vintage Military Vehicle Display
Nov. 13 at the National WWI Museum Southeast Lawn, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) will display vintage military vehicles from World War I, World War II, Korean War and Operation Desert Storm. MVPA members will be available to answer questions about their collection. Availability subject to weather. FREE to the public.
MCC Veterans Summit
Nov. 16 at Metropolitan Community College Penn Valley, 3201 Southwest Trafficway, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free summit from 9:30 a.m. to noon, interactive workshops are available to guide Veteran Owned Enterprises how to grow their business. Lunch will be provided from noon to 1 p.m. for those registered to attend the summit.
