Zoe Oli, 8, is the owner of Beautiful Curly Me. The young entrepreneur has created a line of black dolls with curls and braids, hair care products, and has authored two books – all within the past two years.
At 6, Zoe Oli came home from school and asked her mom why her hair wasn’t straight and “pretty” like her classmates. She didn’t like her hair, she struggled with accepting herself. Her mom felt terrible and wondered how she could help her daughter see herself the way she truly was. Her parents began to encourage her with positive affirmations, books, and she even decided to start wearing her hair natural to encourage her.
Along the way, Mom was also seeking a suitable night time hair care solution for her daughter. Unhappy with the ordinary choices at the local beauty supply store, she looked for a creative way to design a quality sleep cap that her daughter would be excited to wear…and she did. The girl then asked to bring her doll along for the ride with matching sleepcaps…and it caught on! For the very first time. A great way to encourage young girls to care for their curls.
Oli aka ZBoss has become a fearless 7-year old CEO and Chief Muse. She has been featured on various media platforms including CBS, Essence, Fox, and MadameNoire. This year, her doll Leyla, the “Fro Queen” as she’s affectionately called, was featured in the “Oprah’s Favorite Things” promotional video. She is savvy and innovative, picker of the prettiest prints, she is hands on every step of her way and ready to make a difference in the world! That’s why 10% of all proceeds from Beautiful Curly Me go to organizations that make girls glow!
This year – in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Zoe and Beautiful Curly Me created and donated over $10,000 worth of cloth face masks to front liners and the community. With her new Gift-A-Doll Initiative, Zoe wants to spread joy this season and beyond, giving dolls and books to young girls in need.
