Summer activity camps from Wichita Park and Recreation Dept. are available for children ages 6-12, and will run Mondays through Fridays for five weeks, from June 29 to July 31. The program is licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).
Camps will be at McAdams Rec Center (1329 E. 16th St.) – 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Evergreen Rec Center (2700 N. Woodland) – 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Woodard Rec Center (2750 E. 18th St.) – noon-5 p.m.
Parents and guardians must register their kids by appointment only at the location the kids will be attending. For info, visit www.wichita.gov/ParkandRec/Camps/Pages/SummerActivity.aspx or call 316-337-9222 (McAdams), 316-303-8036 (Evergreen), or 316-303-8015 (Woodard).
Registration is $40 per week at McAdams and Evergreen, and $30 at Woodard (due to shorter hours). No camp will be held July 2-3 due to the holiday; the fee that week will be $25.
Scholarships are available. Each location offers the USD 259 free summer lunch program.
Campers will experience a variety of lifelong learning opportunities such as cooking, financial education, gang awareness, and reading. There will also be field trips, swimming, games, crafts, movies and other fun recreational activities.
Off-site field trips are scheduled at various locations around Wichita. Past trips have included Watson Park, Sedgwick County Zoo, Carousel Skate Center, All Star Adventures and swimming at the Wichita Public Pools.
All site directors have a Bachelor’s Degree or comparable experience in recreation, education or related field. All staff members attend training each year in compliance with the KDHE regulations. Ratios of 1 counselor to 15 children (1 counselor to 20 children at Woodard) are maintained at all times.
