Dear Community Voice readers,
We are excited to be participating in #GivingNewsday, a campaign to bring our neighbors together to join, give, and amplify as they can to support our newsroom’s coverage, especially during COVID-19.
#GivingNewsday is this Tues., May 5.
Covering news is expensive, even during “normal’’ times.
Journalists have to be paid, and there are countless other expenses associated with a print and digital news operation. Advertising is an important source of funds to cover those expenses, but in the midst of this pandemic, our advertising revenue has shrunk enormously.
The broader economic challenges for media companies have been well-documented, that’s why we’re working urgently to find the right path to a future where we can thrive. But there is much more work to do, and a key part of it all is finding a way to finance the tremendous expense of covering the news of our community.
That’s where you come in. We need your help. There are 3 ways to help us continue to work of covering our community.
Become a member. It’s a new program we’re just launching with special benefits for those who join.
Support our Criminalization of Poverty Series. If the disproportionate impact of the criminal justice system on the poor concerns you, help us investigate it.
Help Fund our Report for America Journalist. We’ve been awarded a reporting slot from a national program, but we have to fund our contribution.
Thank you for your support and for reading The Community Voice. Your continued support is so meaningful to us during this time, and as part of #GivingNewsday, we encourage you to share our stories and resources with your loved ones and welcome them to become a Community Voice member or donate.
