Michelle Obama has done it again, this time for college students. Her Reach Higher initiative has partnered with ATTN:, a media company whose tagline is “Entertainment that Informs,” on a new ICTV series, “A Year of Firsts.”
Each episode will highlight the journey and personal stories of students as they enter college, freshmen year and explore issues like the academic stress of college, making new friends, college affordability, and physical and mental health while away from home.
Being a first-generation college student herself, Mrs. Obama knows their journey and is excited to provide a platform for these students to candidly discuss the challenges and highlight their success.
“As a first-generation college student myself, I know how intimidating it can be to take that leap and pursue your educational dreams,” said Mrs. Obama. “That’s why I’m so proud of these students. By sharing their stories, they’re helping others see that the ups and downs of the first year of college are something everyone goes through—and they’re creating a supportive community for others facing similar challenges.”
ATTN: is working with the students directly to document their first year. Over six episodes, the series will chronicle freshmen year and conclude in June 2020.
Episode one of “A Year of Firsts” premieres exclusively on IGTV in mid-January.
