With the state’s marijuana laws loosening, state considers expungement of past marijuana convictions.

The Missouri House gave preliminary approval to a proposal that would notify people applying for a medical marijuana card that they could qualify to have previous possession charges sealed from public view.

Under the legislation advancing in the state Legislature, only individuals charged with small level possession would qualify to have their record expunged. Those convicted of trafficking and selling marijuana would not qualify. Similarly, marijuana charges associated with physical assault, death and the sex registry would not be permitted to be sealed.

The measure needs a final vote in the House before it moves to the Senate for further debate.

The legislation is House Bill 341.
