Dr. Reginald Eggleston will be the new Superintendent of Schools for the Geary County USD 475 District.

He will begin with an interim contract on April 15, followed by a two-year contract that begins July 1, the start of the district’s new fiscal year. His annual salary will be $185,000 plus fringe benefits.

Board President Tom Brungardts said he liked Eggleston’s military association, which will be useful in a district where 60% of the students have some association with the military. Eggleston is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve.

Eggleston, who currently resides in Alabama, has worked as an intervention specialist helping to turn around troubled districts. He was assigned on an interim basis to help turn around the Montgomery school district when the state was forced to step in citing deficiencies in fiscal procedures, transportation systems, student academic achievement, and their graduation rate. Following that assignment, he returned to the State Department of Education where he headed up a team assigned to assist 18 struggling school systems, with the aim of preventing the state’s forced intervention.
