The Kansas City KS Branch of the NAACP is turning 100 and their celebrating this auspicious occasion at their Annual Freedom Fund Banquet to be held on Sat., Sept. 15 at the Reardon Convention Center, 520 Minnesota Ave., KCK. Doors for the event open at 5 p.m. Dinner begins at 6 p.m.
Joining the KCK Branch at their Centennial Celebration will be Derrick Johnson, national president and CEO of the NAACP.
Johnson was selected to head the Civil Rights organization in October 2017 and moved to the position from a post as vice chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors. He also served as state president for the Mississippi State Conference NAACP.
Johnson is leading the association through a period of re-envisioning and reinvigoration.
