It was the parade of the year, on Aug. 12 for the 20th annual “A Day With P.R.I.D.E. Black Firefighters.” Sponsored by the Kansas City Kansas Chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, the day kicked off with a parade down Quindaro.
This year, the Grand Marshall was Rev. Dr. Robert L. Baynham, pastor of the Metropolitan Baptist Church, KCK. The parade included several marching bands from the KC area
Before the parade began the firefighters held “The Garvin Memorial Balloon Release” in memory of firefighter Robert Garvin who was killed in 2002.
Following the parade, P.R.I.D.E. served free hot dogs, chips, and soft drinks and gave away school supplies.
