The Convoy of Hope came to Wichita on Saturday, Aug. 5 and offered over $1 million in goods and services to underprivileged families.

For the fifth year Convoy of Hope supplied thousands of area school children with the essential supplies to begin their school year. In the previous four years the site of the backpack giveaway has been at Bethel Life Center, in South Central Wichita. This year they added a site at McAdams Park where over 4,000 families and children were served.

Hundreds of volunteers, many of them from community organizations and churches, were on hand to pass out free food, shoes, and school supplies.

Barbers from all over town came out to give haircuts to the boys and area beauticians styled the girls hair. Free sports medicals and immunizations were also provided .
