The Kansas African American Museum held its gala exhibit opening for their “From the Heartland: Kansas Heritage of President Barack Obama on Sat., Feb. 4. The exhibit will run through April 22.

As the 44th President, and the nation’s first African American President, leaves office, the museum presented this exceptional exhibition which tells the story of his family.

The exhibit looks at the president’s Kansas roots, going back four generations. Who were these people who helped make Barack Obama the man he is today and what role did their Midwest values play in his life.

The exhibit also takes an interesting look at Barack’s mother, Stanley Ann, and her brief but tepid relationship with Barack’s father and how she and Barack moved on.
