After a week of activities that included a play, a day of service, an evening conversation, a youth summit and block party, Wichita residents were hyped about the activities planned from Sat., June 18. However rain and heat dampened the fun.

First, word came Friday about the cancellation of the Juneteenth Gospelfest due to muddy conditions resulting from Wednesday’s rain. Then, blazing hot temperatures kept the crowds at bay during the day at both the Juneteenth Health Fair sponsored by H.O.P.E, Inc. and the Juneteenth Celebration planned at McAdams Park. Before the temperature could cool down and folks who hate heat could come out, the rains came and washed the rest of the day away.

Although Wichitans didn’t get the big Juneteenth bash they wanted, hats off to the committee who put a lot of time into planning and executing a great week of activities.
