Supporters turned out in force to drive the Kickstarter campaign for upcoming feature film, TILL, to meet its goal ahead of schedule.  Produced by Civil Rights documentarian and Executive Producer of Investigation Discovery’s “The Injustice Files” Keith A. Beauchamp (The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till), Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg and Academy Award nominee Frederick Zollo (Mississippi Burning), TILL will be a feature-length drama about Emmett Till’s murder in 1955, based on Beauchamp’s‘Untold,’ and Simeon Wright’s ‘Simeon’s Story: An Eyewitness Account of the Kidnapping of Emmett Till.’

“For many Americans, the horrific murder of Emmett Louis Till was a turning point,” said TILL Producer Whoopi Goldberg. “It showed in graphic detail what Jim Crow laws allowed to happen to men and woman… and now children. For many, that murder forever removed America’s rose-colored glasses. In light of everything happening in our country today, with the return of unchallenged racism, there is no better time to tell the story of Emmett Till whose heinous death was at the hands of monsters. And whose mother, in her grief and pain, said, ‘I want the world to see what they did to my baby,’ and kept his casket open and shamed America to her core.  The same way we know Gandhi, Anne Frank, or Nelson Mandela, we should also know the name Till.”

“We wanted the Kickstarter campaign to reach all of the people who have been inspired and galvanized by Emmett and his legacy and invite them to become a part of TILL,” explains Beauchamp. “We are deeply moved by the show of support we have received and are driven to deliver a powerful and honest telling of this incredible family.”  “To carry that spirit on even further,” adds Zollo, “we felt that the role of Emmett should be opened to any person who dreams of being a part of a historic project like this.”

As part of this ongoing vision for people across America to bring their own voices to TILL, the filmmakers will launch an open nationwide casting call for the role of Emmett Louis Till in early 2016.  The public will be invited to vote for the finalists they feel would best embody such a powerful figure in history and will have additional opportunities throughout the production process to intimately follow the making of the film.  Details on the TILL casting campaign will be announced in the coming weeks

Producer Keith Beauchamp is no stranger to Emmett Till; it was his award winning and Emmy nominated film, The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till that prompted the United States Justice Department, to reopen the case in 2004.  It has been 60 years since Till’s murder, yet his legacy continues to fascinate and inspire from all walks of life.  TILL will depict the young boy’s brutal lynching and the courageous, catalytic decisions made by his mother, Mamie Till Mobley.  However, this was not just one family’s tragic loss.  It was a nation’s loss.

Producing TILL along with Beauchamp, Goldberg and Zollo are Thomas K. Levine, Paul Kurta and Susan Rose. Production will begin on the film in early 2016.
