Stew at The Melting Pot: A Hearty Play in a Progressive Theater

“Stew” written by Zora Howard, was a 2021 finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for drama. The play follows three generations of Black women as they gather at their mother’s home to prepare a traditional stew for an annual family celebration. While the women prepare the stew, some family secrets simmer to the surface.
Director Ile Haggins describes the play as a universal story despite being centered on an Black family. The play takes place all in one day in Mama’s kitchen.
