The Lykins Neighborhood Association in Kansas City has successfully eliminated blight and abandoned properties through a community-focused development project that uses Missouri’s Abandoned Housing Act to take control of homes from absentee owners, renovate them with local rehabbers, and ensure mixed-income housing; the model is being replicated in other KC neighborhoods.
