5. First Black Republican Woman Elected to Congress Has Died
Former U.S. Rep. Mia Love of Utah, a daughter of Haitian immigrants who became the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress has died. She was just 49.
Trump signs executive order threatening to gut Smithsonian Institute funding unless ‘improper ideology’ removed. The president said there has been a “concerted and widespread” effort over the past decade to rewrite American history by replacing “objective facts” with a “distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth.” (Independent)
GOP Lawmaker Introduces Censure Resolution Against Crockett Over Hot Wheels Comment. Republican Rep. Randy Weber is seeking the punishment in response to Crockett’s comments about Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (The Voice)
Fewer Americans now see Canada as a close US ally as Trump strains a longtime partnership. The U.S. shift in viewpoint comes primarily from Democrats, though Republicans are less likely to see Canada as America’s ally now too. (AP News)
