Wichita native Baron Hoy is breaking new ground with his recent appointment as Assistant City Attorney and City Prosecutor for the City of Newton, Kansas.

2. No More Free Rides: KC Bus System Zero Fare Ending

KC City Council has ended the zero-fare bus program, but approved a six-month transit funding plan to avoid most cuts for now.

4. Workshop to Empower Safeguarding Church History

Grab a church representative and join the Black Archives of Mid-America this Saturday, April 26, for “Safeguarding Church History,โ€ a half-day workshopย with a goal to inspire Black churches to preserve and document their vital histories. This event is FREE and lunch will be provided.

5. U.S. Education Department to Restart Defaulted Student Loan Collections

Theย U.S. Department of Educationย announced that it willย resume collections starting May 5 for defaulted federal student loans.

Royals beat Rockies 6-2 to wrap up series sweep. The Kansas City Royals went on to beat the Colorado Rockies 6-2 on Thursday to cap off a doubleheader and series sweep.ย (KSN)

Former Rep. George Santos sentenced to more than 7 years in prison. Santos, 36, hadย pleaded guiltyย in August of last year to charges of committing wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. (NBC)

Progressive and ex-US Rep. Barbara Lee Wins Race for Oakland Mayor. Lee is a Black female trailblazer who represented the city in Congress for over two decades before retiring last year. (The Voice)

๐Ÿ’กTrivia Answer: C. Kenny Washington. Kenny Washington, who attended UCLA where he played alongside Jackie Robinson โ€“ yes, that Jackie Robinson, signed with the Los Angeles Ram in March 1946.ย  He was the first Black player signed after the league had barred Black players from 1934 to 1945.
