1. Urban League to Posthumously Honor Kiah Duggins at 2025 Equal Opportunity Dinner

The Urban League of Kansas will posthumously recognize Kiah Duggins, a Wichita native and civil rights attorney, with the Emerging Leader Award at its Equal Opportunity Dinner and Awards Ceremony on May 1, 2025. 

2. Wyandotte Primaries Are Next Big Metro Elections

In Wyandotte County, one at-large seat and four district seats on the Board of Commissioners are up for election. In WYCOโ€™s unique unified government, there is a combined position of CEO and mayor, and that seat is also up for election.  

3. House Passes the SAVE Act: How Proving Citizenship Will Impact Registering to Vote

While we were all paying attention to tariffs last week, Congress passed the SAVE Act, requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote.

4. Amid Trumpโ€™s Attacks on Smithsonian, Head of National Museum of African American History Steps Down

Kevin Young had led the groundbreaking Washington, D.C., institution since 2021. His resignation comes amid Trumpโ€™s campaign to completely overhaul the Smithsonian and its landmark museums and cultural institutions.ย

๐Ÿ’กTrivia Answer: C. Kenny Washington. Kenny Washington, who attended UCLA where he played alongside Jackie Robinson โ€“ yes that Jackie Robinson, signed with the Los Angeles Ram in March 1946.  He was the first Black player signed after the league had barred Black players from 1934 to 1945.
