A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting near Florida A&M University that injured 12 people Saturday night, Oct. 24, following the school’s homecoming football game.

Tallahassee police identified the teen as Anthony Rivers III. He was arrested Sunday and faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and a charge of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, authorities said. State Attorney Jack Campbell said Rivers would be prosecuted as an adult. WFSU News

The shooting happened near Perry and Manatee streets, just outside Bragg Memorial Stadium, hours after FAMU’s game against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The area was crowded with people leaving the game and homecoming festivities.

Eleven people were struck by gunfire, and a 12th person — the grandmother of one of the victims — was injured while fleeing. Six of those hurt were minors, and the youngest victim was 11 years old. ABC News

At least three victims suffered serious injuries, police said. As of a Sunday morning update, six victims remained hospitalized, including one in critical condition.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicated that a physical altercation preceded the shooting and that the dispute involved people who knew one another. Investigators said none of the victims appeared to have been the intended targets.

The investigation remains open, and additional arrests are possible, police said. ABC News

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the arrest was a significant step, but that investigators would continue working to get answers for the affected families.

FAMU President Marva B. Johnson said the shooting occurred off campus and that the university had reached out to members of the FAMU community who were injured to offer care and support
